CECO Compressor Pistons

CECO can alter designs to suit various applications and resolve chronic failures. Our engineers have extensive OEM, R & D, field conversion experience and metallurgical expertise. Solving chronic failures has made CECO the best friend of many production, service and maintenance managers.

Features
Benefits
Material Selection CECO is experienced in manufacturing pistons from all materials used in the industry. Cast and fully machined pistons are available in aluminum, steels, cast iron and alloys. Two or three-piece and fabricated pistons are available from CECO in a wide variety of sizes and metals.
Piston Design CECO manufactured pistons meet or exceed OEM specifications and are readily available for most industrial air and process gas reciprocating compressors.
Quality and Testing Only the highest quality, mill-certified base stocks consistent with your application and service are used in CECO's precision manufacturing processes. Casting samples are cross-sectioned and thoroughly analyzed. CECO critiques the metallurgical microstructure to exacting specifications. Each finished piston is checked and double-checked for porosity, dimensional accuracy, weight and ring groove depth to insure safe, dependable and balanced performance over a long life.

CECO Piston Rods

CECO manufactured piston rods are more readily available than most supplied by OEMs. CECO can ship from its stock of popular piston rods or rapidly produce a rod from a wide selection of specialty steels and CNC machining programs.

Features Benefits
Material Selection CECO standard is SAE-4140 heat treat aircraft quality induction hardened. This is the most widely accepted material in use today for compressor piston rods. It can be heat treated for maximum strength and is easily induction hardened on the surface to provide superior wearing qualities. In addition, CECO can supply specialty or exotic steels for immediate delivery.
Finish and Hardness CECO rods are induction hardened and finish ground to original OEM specifications. Special finish and hardening are available when operating conditions dictate. In general, the harder the surface, the better the wear. For SAE 4140 steel rods the maximum hardness is 50 Rc. Induction hardening is normally used except when the application indicates otherwise - for example, in corrosive service.
Thread Design One of the most highly stressed sections of the piston rod is at the root of the threads on the crosshead end of the rod. Where conditions warrant, CECO employs a rolled thread to insure the strongest section available. GO-NO-GO gages insure a final check of proper thread mating with rod nuts and crosshead. Magnaflux and ultrasonic checks are used to assure rod integrity without hidden flaw.
