Hydraulic Pushrods for
Cooper-Bessemer Engines

Filling and Bleeding Instructions for Cooper LS and Cooper LSV

  1. Remove inner drive barrel and check to be sure the outer barrel and lifter does not contain
    any foreign matter.
  2. Clamp pushrod upright in vise about 3" from bottom.
  3. Fill the oil reservoir with 10W-40 oil or equivalent.
  4. Insert bleeding tool (furnished by CECO) in pushrod and work it up and down to be sure lifter unit is
    seated. Insert bleed wire through center of bleed tube and locate the ball check in center of the lifter
    unit. While holding down the ball check with the bleed wire work the bleed tube up and down several
    times to purge the air from lifter unit. Remove the bleed wire and push down on bleed tube.
    If *ANY* downward movement is felt, repeat bleeding process.
  5. Remove the bleed tube and refill the oil reservoir to about 1" below brass bushing.
  6. Insert the inner drive barrel (SLOWLY TO PREVENT DISPLACING THE OIL)

Installation and Adjustments

  1. Remove exiting pushrods.
  2. Install CECO Magnum pushrods. NOTE: If unit is equpped with OEM hydraulic liftre, remove OEM lifter unit and replace with CECO spacers.
  3. Set No. 1 cylinder on TDC with both intake and exhaust valves closed.
  4. Back off both adjusting screws on intake rocker arm, now turn only (1) adjusting screw down until it
    makes contact with the valve and all movement is out of the valve train. Now turn adjusting screw
    down 1 ½ turns.
  5. Wait for the pushrod to bleed. (When pushrod has bled, you can rotate the tappet)
  6. Lock adjusting screw locknut.
  7. Turn the second intake valve adjusting screw down until it make contact with the valve, set lock nut.
    (This is a feel adjustment and is very important)
  8. Repeat this adjusting process on the exhaust valve.
