Hydraulic Pushrods for
Cooper-Bessemer Engines

Filling and Bleeding Instructions for Cooper V250
  1. Be sure the lifter units and barrels do not contain any foreign matter.
  2. Clamp the lifter upright in a vise below the outer tube on the bottom 2" of the pushrod. Slip the inner barrel out.
  3. Remove inner barrel (Driver) and fill the reservoir with 10w-30 weight oil or equivalent. Insert bleed tube (Furnished by CECO) into oil reservoir and the center of lifter unit. Take bleed wire and insert into the bleed tube until it makes contact with the ball check in the lifter unit. While holding the ball check open push the bleed tube down and release several times until when you remove the bleed wire there is "NO" downward movement in the bleed tube.
  4. Remove bleed tube and insert the inner barrel (driver) SLOWLY AS NOT DISPLACE OIL FROM THE RESERVOIR. Push down on the driver to check for proper bleed.
  5. If the lifter is to be stored for any length of time, it is necessary to seal the upper and lower barrels with tape and plug the upper Teflon insert. If possible, store in an upright position.
  6. CECO Magnum Hydraulic Pushrods should be inspected once a year. If the oil is contaminated, wash out the pushrod with a clean solvent. Replace with clean oil. Magnum units must be kept clean.
Installation and Maintenance
  1. Remove the rocker arm and replace the adjusting screw (if supplied) with CECO adjusting screw Check rocker arm bushing for proper clearance
  2. Remove the pushrod hold-down spring and bracket and remove the existing pushrod.
  3. Install the CECO Magnum pushrod and replace the hold down spring and bracket.
  4. Replace the rocker arm.

NOTE: When tightening the spring hold down bracket, be sure the pushrod is in the center.
Adjustments
  1. Turn the engine until the #1 cylinder pushrod is on the low cam.
  2. Loosen rocker arm adjusting screw and insert a .090" thick spacing gauge between the rocker arm contact bottom and gas valve tip.
Tighten the rocker arm adjusting screw several turns until the gas valve spring fully collapses lifter unit (Remove Adjusting Jam Nut To More Turns Which Will Make Lifer Unit Collapse Faster)
  3. With lifter unit fully collapsed back off adjusting screw until the fuel valve closes, and the .090 thick spacer gauge can be removed (May a little take force to remove) Tighten the adjusting screw locknut.
  4. Proceed to the next cylinder, in firing order, and repeat the above procedure.
