Hydraulic pushrods for Ingersoll-Rand engines

Filling and Bleeding Instructions for KVT, KVR (Intake & Exhaust) Engines

  1. Be sure the pushrod units and barrels do not contain any foreign matter.
  2. Clamp the lifter upright in a vise below the outer tube on the bottom 2" of the pushrod.
  3. Remove the inner barrel and fill the exhaust & intake pushrod with 10W-40 oil.
  4. SLOWLY insert the driver (inner barrel) into the pushrod and work it up & down to be sure the lifter is seated and the driver returns each time. (NOTE: The lifter will feel spongy at this point.) Insert the bleed wire into the center hole of the driver until wire comes in contact with the ball check in the lifter unit. While holding down on the bleed wire, push the driver down until it stops, then release, do this several times to purge the air from lifter unit. After removing the bleed wire, push down on the driver, if any downward movement is felt, repeat the bleeding process. If special oil is needed, contact a CECO Sales Representative for further instructions.

IMPORTANT: ALL AIR "MUST" BE PURGED OUT OF LIFTER BEFORE INSTALLATION.

  5. CECO Magnum Hydraulic Pushrods should be inspected once a year. If the oil is contaminated, wash out the pushrod with a clean solvent. Replace with clean oil. Magnum units must be kept clean.

Installation and Adjustment of Power Valves

  1. Remove the existing pushrod from the engine. Check rocker arm bushing for correct clearance.
  2. If the engine design has (2) exhaust or intake valves, remove the spring under the bridge.
  3. If unit has OEM hydraulic lifters, remove and replace with CECO spacers.
  4. IMPORTANT: ADJUST THE BRIDGE, BY BACKING OFF THE BRIDGE ADJUSTING SCREW, HOLD DOWN ON THE BRIDGE AGAINST THE VALVE STEM AND TURN THE ADJUSTING SCREW DOWN UNTIL IT MAKES CONTACT WITH THE VALVE STEM. MAKING SURE THAT CONTACT ON THE EACH VALVE STEM ARE ALIKE.
  5. With the #1 cylinder on TDC (Top Dead Center), and all valves are closed, screw down on the adjusting screw until it touches the top bridge. Now make 1-1/2 turns down and set the locknut. Proceed to the next cylinder, in firing order and repeat.
  6. Turn the engine over, with air or starter, to be sure all the pushrods hold their setting.
If you do not see the hydraulic pushrod for your engine type, please email our technical department for more information.
