Filling
and Bleeding Instructions for Ingersoll-Rand KVT (fuel) and Ingersoll-Rand
KVR (fuel) engines
- Be
sure the lifter units and barrels do not contain any
foreign matter.
- Clamp
the lifter upright in a vise below the outer tube on
the bottom 2" of the pushrod.
- Remove
the outer barrel and fill the pushrod with 10W - 40
oil.
- Insert
the driver into the lower barrel slowly (to keep from
displacing a little amount of oil as possible) and work
it up and down to be sure the lifter unit is seated
properly. Insert the bleed wire through the center of
driver. Locate the ball check valve in the lifter unit.
While holding down on the bleed, work the driver up
and down to purge all the air out of the lifter unit.
After removing the bleed wire, push down on the driver.
If any downward movement is felt, repeat the bleeding
process.
- CECO
Magnum Hydraulic Pushrods should be inspected once a
year. If the oil is contaminated, wash out the pushrod
with a clean solvent. Replace with clean oil. Magnum
units must be kept clean.
Installation
and Adjustment
-
Remove the existing pushrod from the engine. Check rocker
arm bearings for correct clearance, Remove the spring under
the fuel valve rocker arm if applicable & install the
CECO Magnum pushrods.
Note: If unit has OEM hydraulic lifters in rocker arm remove
and replace with CECO spacers.
Note: If unit has OEM hydraulic lifters in the pushrod of
fuel valve. It will be necessary to replace the ball end with"
like ball end" on intake and exhaust rocker arm. Remove
the oil feed tubing line & fittings from the fuel rocker
arm. Plug the top (1/4" NPT) hole with flat "Allen"
head pipe plug. Drill a 1/32" hole in center of plug
to allow oil to travel to the ball socket.
-
With
the #1 cylinder on TDC (Top Dead Center), and all valves
are closed, screw down on the adjusting screw until it
touches the valve. Now make 1-1/2 turns down and set the
locknut. Proceed to the next cylinder, in firing order
and repeat.
-
Turn
the engine over, with air or starter; to be sure all the pushrods
hold their setting.
