Hydraulic pushrods for Ingersoll-Rand engines

Hydraulic Pushrod Installation and Adjustment Instructions for Ingersoll-Rand PVG and Ingersoll-Rand XVG engines

  1. Remove cam follower from engine (must be low cam to remove).
  2. Put in vise and pull cam follower contact button (using tool made from drawing No. 24-1109A).
  3. Clean inside of cam follower barrel and insert CECO pushrod down in barrel. (NOTE: You cannot turn pushrod by hand in barrel. It is not clean in the cam follower when contact button is removed. This will have to be smoothed down so pushrod will turn inside the cam follower.)
  4. Insert cam follower in guide and work it up and down to be sure it does not drag. Move it the full length of the follower.
  5. With cam follower in the guide and the pushrod in the follower, remove pushrod center driver. Fill oil reservoir with engine oil. Insert driver into the pushrod (very slowly to hold oil in barrel). Insert a wire (no longer than 1/8") through center of driver until it makes contact with the ball check in the center of the lifter unit.
While holding down on bleed wire, push down on driver the full length and release. Do this several times until you can remove bleed wire and push down on driver and feel no downward movement. If any movement is felt, repeat bleeding.
  6. Install cam follower on engine and with the #1 cylinder on TDC (Top Dead Center), turn valve adjusting nut down until it makes contact with driver of pushrod. Now turn nut 1-1/4", turn down and set lock nut.
  7. Proceed to next cylinder in firing order.
If you do not see the hydraulic pushrod for your engine type, please email our technical department for more information.
