Hydraulic pushrods for White engines

Hydraulic pushrod installation instructions for White engines

Filling and Bleeding Instructions:

  1. Be sure the lifter units and barrels do not contain any foreign matter.
  2. Clamp the lifter upright in a vise below the outer tube on the bottom 2" of the pushrod. Slip the inner barrel out.
  3. Fill the reservoir with IOW-40 weight oil or equivalent. Other oils are used in special cases. (Check with a CECO sales representative.)
  4. Insert the inner barrel into the pushrod and work it down to make sure the lifter unit is seated. (NOTE: The lifter should be spongy at this point.)
  5. Insert a bleed wire (supplied) through the hole in center of the driver and make contact with lifter unit ball check valve.
  6. With the wire holding the check valve open, push down on the driver until the lifter is bottomed out. Release and repeat 3 or 4 times, with the wire holding the check valve open. On the last stroke, hold the driver all the way down and lift the wire out. Let the driver return to its relaxed position. The lifter should act solid almost instantly when any downward pressure is applied to the driver. Repeat 2 or 3 times or until there is no downward movement or sponginess.
  7. If the lifter is to be stored for any length of time, it is necessary to seal the upper and lower barrels with tape and plug the hole in driver cup. If possible, store in an upright position.
  8. CECO Magnum Hydraulic Pushrods should be inspected once a year. If the oil is contaminated, wash out the pushrod with a clean solvent. Replace with clean oil. Magnum units must be kept clean.

Installation:

  1. Remove the existing pushrod and adjusting screw from the engine and check rocker arm bearings for correct clearance. Install the CECO Magnum pushrods and adjusting screw (supplied).
  2. Make sure the pushrod passes through the gasket area. The power head should have enough clearance to allow the oil from the rocker arm to return to the crankcase.
  3. With both the intake and exhaust valves closed on the #1 cylinder, screw down on the adjusting screw until the rocker arm touches top of the valve stem.
  4. After contact of the valve, turn the adjusting screw 1 1/2 turns down and set the lock nut.
  5. After the installation, make sure the driver barrel does not rub the power head or block.
  6. Proceed to the next cylinder, in firing order, and repeat until all the cylinders have been adjusted.

*Pushrods can be installed on "V" type engines without removing rocker arms
