Request for Quote - Piston Rings and Rider Bands
Rider Bands
In addition to piston rings, CECO offers a complete line of
rider rings, manufactured to meet your application requirements
- in the materials you need. Typically used to prevent piston-to-cylinder
contact, CECO's rider rings, manufactured of high quality blended
Resilon-T™, outperform other ring materials for use in both lubricated
and non-lubricated service. Like piston rings, rider rings are available
with straight, angle or step cut gaps, in one-piece, two-piece and
multi-piece configurations. Cut rider rings are manufactured with
side relief grooves, another CECO standard. They are also available
as solid, uncut rings for an interference fit in the rider ring
groove for use in applications where rider rings might encounter
valve ports or counterbores.
Multiple
Ring Assemblies
A three-piece assembly consists of two outer rings, with either
straight or angle cuts, assembled on a common inner ring or expander
wide enough to accommodate both outer rings. This assembly provides
effective sealing in both directions. These unidirectional multiple
sealing rings provide high-performance sealing at pressures typical
of polyethylene compressors. The assembly is made up of a single
straight-cut ring and a two-piece ring composed of an inner and
outer ring both normally straight cut. The inner ring functions
as both an expander and gap seal for the outer ring.
Installation
of Solid Rider Rings
Solid rider rings are machined with an interference fit so that,
once expanded over the piston end, they contract like a rubber band
providing a snug fit on the piston. Unlike piston rings which must
move freely in their grooves to seal, rider rings are literally
stretched in order to slide them over the end of the piston and
into the rider groove. For easier installation, CECO furnishes rider
rings which are pre-stretched, mounted on groove-locked expanders
to fit over the piston head. Once in the ring groove, Resilon-T's
natural elastic memory causes the ring to contract to its original
dimensions. Unstretched rider rings are also available for force-fit
installation over a piston head.
